Dr. Dorit Donoviel

Director, The Translational Research Institute for Space Health

As director for the Translational Research Institute for Space Health, Dorit Donoviel, Ph.D., leads a NASA-funded program that finds, funds and facilitates human performance solutions for astronauts traveling in deep space. Prior to her current

position, Dr. Donoviel served as Deputy Chief Scientist and Industry Forum Lead for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute. In this role, she established partnerships among industry, government and academia to deliver solutions

applicable for human space travel and also impactful on Earth. Dr. Donoviel is also Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and in the Center for Space Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Prior to joining BCM, Dr. Donoviel led two drug discovery programs for eight years at biotechnology company Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. She is the recipient of

multiple honors including NASA Human Research Program awards and the National

Space Biomedical Research Institute Outstanding Leadership Award. Dr. Donoviel completed a postdoctoral fellowship from Mount Sinai Research Institute in Toronto, Canada; holds a Biochemistry Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA; and received a B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of

California, San Diego in La Jolla, CA. She is an avid collector of Star Trek memorabilia.


The Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) is a Baylor College of Medicine led consortium with Caltech and MIT. Funded by NASA through a cooperative agreement, TRISH engages and enables new health technologies to predict, protect and preserve astronaut health during deep space exploration missions. We seek high risk, high reward, high quality and efficient solutions that can be adapted (or translated) for use in space. We serve as a bridge between industry,
